On Dec 13, Jersey City fire captain Thomas P. Verdon, 58, was allegedly ransacking an unoccupied building on Clinton Ave, in hopes of carting off stained glass windows and other fixtures. The house belongs to Theodore Brunson, director of the Jersey City Afro-American Museum, who had boarded it up ahead of planned renovations.
A neighbor challenged him and Verdon cooked up a story about doing repair work. No dice. He was charged with burglary and theft but the charges were mysteriously reduced to " defiant trespassing," in what would appear to be a case of law enforcement courtesy to a fellow first responder.
According to the Jersey Journal, Verdon followed his arrest with a vacation and is now back on the job.
